Day 7 - Amarillo TX to Tucumcari NM - 112 miles

Cadillac Ranch

About 9 miles west of Amarillo is the classic roadside attraction. No way we would miss this opportunity.

We even left our mark.

Vega TX

A restored 1924 Magnolia gas station and a couple vintage signs of businesses that unfortunately have closed.

Adrian TX

We DID IT!!  Made it to the halfway point of the trip.  This small town in the middle of the panhandle gets the designation and yields it proudly.

Across the highway from the "official" markers is a quaint little diner that serves up a nice slice of pie.  Good place to celebrate reaching half way.

Tucumcari NM

Seemingly frozen in time to when Route 66 was in its hey day, Tucumcari has a little bit of everything.  Hokey souvenir stands, great diners, awesome neon lights of classic motels... it has it all.

We had a great lunch at Del's Restaurant, which has been serving up meals since 1956.  Before we checked into our motel, we toured the rest of town. The highlight of the New Mexico Route 66 Museum was when Amy captured her first tumbleweed.

We were fortunate to get rooms at the updated Blue Swallow Motel.  In business since 1940 it was like stepping back in time.  Great hosts AND great neon.

After cocktails at the ultra cool Lizard Lounge we took a neon tour of the main drag.
